Coffee, in an urn that goes home

The coffee on the board is a steel urn, a stack of plain cups, sugar, and two jugs: cow’s milk and oat. It is brewed in Holon just before the van leaves, so the first drop is still worth drinking at 08:30 and the second drop was not made at dawn. We do not send capsules, and we do not leave a branded box of pods for the office to store.

The urn

Twelve cups is the right urn for a tray of eight, because two people will want a second cup and one person will want tea. Twenty-four cups is the urn for fifteen or thirty when the meeting is long and the sweet tray is large. The coffee is a straightforward filter brew, stronger than a hotel lobby and quieter than a cafe that is pulling shots for a queue. There is a flask of hot water and a tin of tea bags in the crate when you ask for tea in the order. The flask is ₪78, VAT included, and it comes back with the urn.

In August the urn is the one hot vessel we trust. It is vented. It is meant to be opened in the first hour, not held for a 13:00 recap. Do not ask us to pour the oat drink into the coffee before we leave the kitchen. Oat and dairy both split and dull if they sit in the brew through the Ayalon. The jugs stay cold in a sleeve. People pour their own. That is also how a dairy jug and an oat jug remain two different things for the person who cares.

A twelve-cup urn with the sweet tray for eight is ₪514. That is the classic coffee break, and it clears the ₪490 delivery minimum. The urn on its own does not. If the office already has pastry and only wants coffee, add fruit or the savoury tray, or collect the urn from the Holon dock between 07:00 and 09:30 on Sunday to Thursday, where the floor is ₪220.

Milk, oat, soy, almond

Every urn crate includes cow’s milk and oat drink. Soy instead of cow’s milk is free if it is on the order by 16:00 the day before, so we buy it into that morning’s crate and do not open a jug we cannot use. Oat stays in the crate either way, because someone in a room of twelve will want it. Almond drink is different. Almond is a nut. It is not in the standard crate. If you want it, choose it on the order and we add ₪28, VAT included, for a marked jug. The crate card will say nuts. The kitchen already uses walnuts and almonds on the sweet bake, so an almond jug is an extra serving of something the room may already be near, not the introduction of nuts into a nut-free plant. We are not a nut-free plant. Say that to the person who asked for almond milk and also told you the room is nut-free. Both sentences cannot be true here.

Cups, jugs and linens come back

The cups are thick, plain, and unmarked. They are not paper, and they are not a set we are trying to place in your cupboard. Stack them when the meeting is over. Rinse them if the floor has a sink; if it does not, stack them anyway and we will wash them in Holon. Fold the linens, even badly. Put the jugs in the crate upright. The steel trays from the sweet and savoury pages go in the same crate if they came with the coffee, which they usually did.

We collect between 13:30 and 16:00 the same day. If that is impossible, security can hold the crate inside the door and we take it on the next working morning’s first van. Friday crates that miss the 12:00 collection wait until Sunday, because Saturday is closed and we will not send a driver. A missing cup is ₪9, a missing linen is ₪28, and a missing crate is ₪140, all VAT included, on the following invoice. The driver counts when the crate comes back. If you want to count together, be at the door in the collection window. We do not come upstairs a second time for one cup that turned up under a notebook.

The brew, the jugs and the return loop are part of the same order as the trays. Send the date, the window, the headcount, the building and the loading note from the order page. We reply to confirm. Until that reply, the urn is not yours for 08:00.
